Good news!

Well, recently, this blog became three years old! I think that in itself is a great cause for celebration. However, there are so many other things I think that need to be mentioned as this has been a very happy week for me.

Firstly: my three years blogging. It's been varied and a weird mix of so many different styles, and it's honestly embarrassing to look back at some of those first posts, but three years is a great achievement. I love seeing how my craft techniques have evolved, even my photography, and the wide range of subjects and topics covered here.

Second: I achieved 30 followers on bloglovin! I was so happy. I know to some people that's not a lot, but it is to me, so I would like to take this chance to thank all of you who follow this blog, it does mean so much to me.

Third: I have 50 pinterest followers! I don't even know when that happened, I just noticed this morning. Thank you so much to everyone if you're following me on pinterest, it means a lot, especially seeing as so many of you allow my indulgences into Star Trek 'shipping!

Finally, but by no means least: I got into my first-choice University!!! I managed to pull out A-Level Results of AABB, including an A in History, which made me so delighted. I can't wait to go and study the past permanently! I am over the moon, and I've had a permanent smile on my face since I found out on Thursday morning.

So this has been a mighty good week! I hope to bring you more blog things in the near future, but who knows what this next year will bring - perhaps I'll go into a completely different branch of blogging all together? Who knows. I'm happy and that's all that matters.

And so goes February....

Where has February gone?! Everything just seems to have happened at once! And what with avoiding Valentines day and the most hectic half term that I have ever experienced, NOTHING has got done.

Well. That's a partial lie.
I've done my Physics Homework.

But crafty wise, not a lot.
I've been knitting some squares in front of the television, in an attempt to try and make a quilt before I go to University (good luck with that).
I've recently re-discovered my 15mm knitting needles, and knitted myself a small snood.
I've made a few scrapbook pages.
But nothing hugely exciting.

And I will have to apologise, because the next half term is a biggie.
History Coursework needs to be done.
I have an art exam to prepare for.
REVISION.

I guess what I'm saying is - don't expect too much from me for a while.

Ta muchly for your time.
(I should definitely be back at the end of June!)

When we played Catch

Sometimes, you just have to cling to the moments that make you happiest.

I've found this subject very difficult, and I often don't allow myself to be happy. But it's those unconscious slips where I suddenly find myself being happy that I cling to, no matter how short, how spontaneous or how trivial. I want more of them. So they deserve to be documented. In this way, when I fall into a low, I can find them again.

On a Thursday, last thing, we have a form period where various pieces of admin occur. Currently we are preparing Christmas Shoeboxes for Operation Christmas Child. And we had a spare bouncy ball.

It started with me, bouncing it off of the desk.
Then Beth asked me to throw it to her, and we played catch.
Soon there was Mignonne, Nikki and Tom.
Then we tried to get it into the fire bucket.
And we played piggy in the middle.
And then we returned to playing catch, bouncing it off of the cupboard doors.

It sounds far too simple.
But the excitement and sheer concentration, competitiveness and frivolity of us near-adults, over a small, bouncy ball, was somewhat astonishing. The relief it gave over its simplicity broke the trend of the serious nature of A-Levels. I laughed and I smiled, and while others looked on at us thinking us childish, I didn't care. It was fun.
It forces me to acknowledge the friends I have, and to appreciate them for all they're worth, because they are worth far more than me. They see me through all of the guarded, upset, conflicted Rachel, and help to reveal the light-hearted one.
They are the best people in the world.

Oh Blergh

Yes, after my long silence I reward you with: teenage troubles that have nowhere else to go...

On Thursday I received a cryptic text from one of my friends from school. It read:
'I know someone who likes you.'
Sounds straight forward? Well it should be, but I have received similar messages which end up being completely benign.

Anyway, Friday dawned, and walking to school from the bus, I was ambushed by said friend, where it was announced that this actually wasn't a joke.

*Instant Thoughts Running Through Mind*
Maybe its the guy I like?
But what if its horrible?
Or I don't even know him (which isn't hard to imagine, I'm useless with people names and anything else that is used to form memories of people)
This could still turn out to be another joke!

I was then informed that it was someone in my form.

Oh no.

Then:
'It' someone who can look up to you'

Great. Short. I know who it is.

I mean he's a good person, and I'd call him a friend, but not in that way. What's worse is that, after other digging, it's been circulating the sixth form centre, and I had no idea. This means, due to some 'independent school guy code' the boy I like probably won't even admit anything until either a) I've turned the other one down or b) the other one finds a new girl to hit on.

Ether way I'm doomed, so I might as well focus on my work.

P.S. I was thinking about changing the purpose of this blog: any free time I have is either minuscule and I'm fuming over something, or I take it up with what little crafting I can do. I just don't want to turn this into a lifestyle blog if no one wants to. I'll get a new blog and let this one go dormant. Let me know what you think.

Good Grief, September

It sounds like I should be in a period drama, addressing a girl called September who has just announced a scandal. At least, in my head it does.

So. September has nearly flown away in a blink of an eye and I have barely started my Christmas presents. Don't panic Rachel, not yet, don't panic. I do have excuses to serve them all.

1) I am taking A Levels in History, Physics and Art. These take up time to do the work, but also getting used to the classes again.
2) I have a Physics class of three - me and two boys. One is lovely, one is most definitely not. I'm still getting used to how this is going to work.
3) I had a presentation to give to the governors as part of a prize competition, got very worked up, but hopefully could have clawed it back with my question answering skills.
4) The joys of being upper sixth - Tug of War, Bus Monitor, advice to younger students... Tug of War caused Pain.
5) Volunteering at the National Trust on Saturdays.
6)general life making me tired.
7) UCAS

But also, things to be glad about:
Downton Abbey
Skirts
Chocolate Cake
A Trebuchet
Rail Tickets
Friends

So perhaps September has been well balanced. But I must do more crafting...

So.... This is How Things are Going....

JEEPERS!
Has it really been nearly 3 weeks?!?!?!
It would seem that 6th form-ing is indeed very tiring, and hectic.

So here's a quick catch up:
~ I'm doing well in art (they haven't complained to me for lack of work unlike everyone else, and I love what I'm doing) ~
~Physics is horrible because I'm the only girl with 5 boys, and it is awkward, but it's become vaguely bearable. I no longer feel physically sick at the prospect of going to the lessons at least. The subject is cool as a consolation. ~
~ History is amazing, it's so interesting...but both of my teachers are madmen... ~
~ And in maths, they moved me up to the Accelerated group. We do the ENTIRE A-Level (2 year's work) this year. Which is completely awesome. ~

Other things; The bus is weird, the students here are friendly, they juggled my form and house about twice, we had a whole school photo, I've found a few people who I may one day call friends, the boys open doors for you (still can't get over this one), I'm reading 'The Perks of Being a Wallflower', and enjoying my work.

My personal disposition and temperament is bordering depressive, but that's got nothing to do with this.

But what bugs me is that I haven't knitted or sewn anything since school began.
I am infuriated with myself.
But I'm not sure what I can do....
Keep trying I guess.....

Craft Review: Week 37: Sunday 2nd - Saturday 8th September

I went back to school this week.
But, it's a new school, and this time, I'm studying A-Levels - they're a lot of work.
Things are going to get a bit more sparse around here - There's only so much one can cope with when they return from school at 6pm, 11 hours after they left...

So, before anyone asks: Physics, Maths, History and Art. So, I'm not being completely hopeless, I do Art every single day.... Every Single Day!!!
The flip side of this is being the only girl in a class of 5 boys in Physics... I'll let you know how that gets on.... It would be better if they even tried to talk to me....

Anywho,back to where we were.

On Monday, before my return, I completed the other petals for mum's poppy. That's all; I still need to stitch them and create the middle, but I have the petals.

Also, on Tuesday, when I got home, I finished knitting a scarf for one of my cousins for either her birthday/Christmas Present.... (Photo unavailable, as mother has squirrelled it away!)

And then we have Art, where, at the moment, we are just drawing/painting/recording ANYTHING that we want AT ALL!!!!
It's just so wonderful.
