Inspiration Realisation: 4

Another instalment of my series where I take my hoarded inspiration and actually convert it into projects.

Inspiration for this round:

First of all, if you haven't heard of Adele from Inkie Quill, what are you doing?! Go check her out right now! Her videos are freaking amazing! I love her to bits, but I'm sort of scared of the youtube community, so I watch as a silent observer. But Adele, if you ever read this (which is highly unlikely), I love your videos so much. Thank you for sharing your - wait for it- radness with the world. and thank you for also reintroducing the words 'freaking' and 'rad' to my vocabulary.

So, inspired by Adele, I decided I'd like to scraplift the layout created in the video above, and attempt my own grab 5 (I hope she doesn't mind!)

My five items are:

1) This 6x6 paper pad that has been in my stash since 2007. Yup. That long. I needed to get rid of it.

2) These wood veneer quotes by Studio Calico.

3) The Elle's Studio Cienna stamp.

4) Some lilac washi tape.

5) And something from my sequin/gem tin.

This is what I created!

IT'S AN OCTOPUSH LAYOUT!!!
Because I am weird and play underwater hockey and when I made my protective glove I dyed the silicone lilac and lime green. Because I'm awesome. Everyone knows its me. Which, when you're playing at the bottom of the pool, is always a good thing, as communication isn't really that easy...

Anyway, the scrapbooking.

I managed to use all five of the products I'd chosen in this layout, so that's the grab 5 part checked. It's a really great idea, and I hope to try it again. In terms of the actual layout, I flipped the page 90 degrees so it ran horizontally instead of vertically. I loved layering up all of the little pieces, the purple and green, though outdated in terms of the supplies in the scrapbook world, remain one of my more favourite colour combinations.

Which probably makes me strange, I know.

Next in this small project, I decided to pick one of the sketches I'd been hoarding... Sketches are one of those fantastic inventions, though, that can be replicated again and again, but to such varied results! So, I thought it was about time I had a go at using one.

(By the way, take a look at Susan's original post for this sketch, teh examples are truly beautiful!)

I turned this sketch on its side, sticking pretty close to the design, only really switching the place of the journalling and extending the embellishment along the diagonal. I replaced the frame with a cinema ticket, as it helped to tell the story behind this page.

I really enjoyed working with this sketch, and I'm looking forward to try and use it again, perhaps compare the different outcomes.

Inspiration Realisation: 2

In a second post of my new theme of Inspiration Realisation, I turned to a food recipe I had hoarded. Food inspired projects are probably the easiest to realise, as most of us have the ingredients already, it's just putting them together that takes a bit of thinking.

I collected this recipe a few months ago, of Parmesan Pull-apart rolls:

They looked amazing. So I decided to give them a go.

My Parmesan perhaps cooked a bit more than the original recipe, but I love the colour on it. They tasted delicious too, they didn't last very long in this house at all!! It's definitely a recipe that I would try again!

Inspiration Realisation: 1

This is a segment that I've been thinking about for a long time. We are swamped by inspiration thanks to the wonderful powers of the internet: blogs, pinterest, instagram. With Pinterest particularly, I know that it can become very easy to hoard that inspiration, but never act on it. Who else here has several boards, with hundreds of pins, but you never seem to make anything?

I think we should change this: actually make what we said we wanted to.

I found this pin while I was looking for an idea for a friend who recently had her tonsils taken out, just a little something to cheer her up. I followed the link, which came out at an etsy store, but which wasn't selling any more. So I had a think This was a crochet project, but who's to say it couldn't be knitted?

So I gave it a try.

Mine I don't think is quite as cute, but you get the idea. I used a basic pattern for knitting mug hugs to do the base. In hindsight, I think it's possibly a bit too wide, but that's something to keep in mind for when I knit the pattern again. I knitted two tiny triangles, and my sister, bless her, crocheted a nice circle for the nose. I sewed all of these on, added two buttons for the eyes, and then I was done. It was fairly quick and simple, and it has an impact. She loved it, which is all that matters.

Nice to start actually making these projects that I saved!
