Alice

 

This was a cushion that I made for a friend's birthday. She's obsessed with cats, and loves Alice in Wonderland. This is also the neatest piece of embroidery that I have ever done. It worked out really well, and she loved it.

 

The pattern is one from Fandom in Stitches, and I love it.

Also, everything I used was gifted to me, so it really does go to prove that crafting makes things so much cheaper!

A Winter Card

 

 

I am considering this to be a winter card as a) it is made for a winter Birthday and b) it involves the cold blue and white that are commonly associated with Winter.

 

This card is made for my dear, lovely Mummy, and I used it as an experiment for

 a) using fabric flowers (I quite like them)

b) using my new mini alphabet stamps (I quite like them)

c) drawing on a card (I quite like it!)

 

So all around, a very successful venture.

Except for the fact that the piece of cad that I used to take pictures on was cream and not white, so everything looks quite dark in these pictures. Apologies.

A Birthday Card

 

 

I love Winnie the Pooh. Always have, and probably, always will. I made this for my friend's birthday and when asked by my mother 'Are you sure she likes Winnie the Pooh', I answered pointedly, 'if she doesn't, she should have latched on by now that I do.'

 

Plus... HOW CUTE IS IT?!?!

 

Equipment:

A stamp ( I've had this one for years, and am seriously in love with it)

White Card

Coloured card scrap

Brown ink pad

Colouring Pencils

Foam Pads

Gingham Ribbon

Glue

 

1) Ink up the stamp and print a clear image onto a sheet of white card. Trim the image and round the corners.

2) Highlight areas with colouring pencils, such as Pooh, or Piglet, or Christopher Robin's shirt.

3) Cut a rectangle slightly larger than the image and round corners also.

4) Layer the two pieces of card using foam pads, slightly off centre

5) Fold an A5 white card blank, and hold horizontally. Glue the gingham ribbon a third in from the right hand side

6) Attach the stamped image and smile.

 

All together now 'awwwwwww!'

Why don't people send me nice birthday cards like this? I usually get ones with shoes and handbags on them. I am not impressed.

It's My Mummy's Birthday! Yay! And I had lots of fun making things for her.

An eclectic mix perhaps, but I spent a lot of time on them, and I hope she loves them as much as I do.

Craft Review: Week 5: Sunday 22nd January - Saturday 28th January 2012

Sunday

I spent a few hours experimenting with word art on a canvas, for my friend Drew's Birthday. It turned out quite well, and she loved it, but I stupidly forgot to take a photo of it. It was in the colours of yellow and black, and contained the word Hufflepuff.

Monday

I came home feeling drained after spending an extra hour in school to complete my English coursework, so I only managed a row or two of my simple fluffy scarf.

Tuesday

I did a session of after school art, in which I completed my battle with a canvas and a compass. Indeed, it is most intriguing.... I then came home and skimmed my history textbook in preparation for my sources paper tomorrow.

Wednesday

I came home, absolutely horrified. That was the most terrifying exam I had ever done. I knew NOTHING about the subject. It was based on a paragraph on the textbook of only four lines. Luckily, I think my educated guesses may have saved my skin.... So. I came home feeling absolutely horrible, and to make myself feel better, I made this:

This is for my Mummy, and is a simple envelope backed pillow, hand embroidered with white wool. It definitely succeeded in cheering me up

Thursday

I did after school art again, whereby I attacked my canvas again, this time with a blue colouring pencil. I have completed 3/6 circles. Mysterious, no?

Friday

This has been the week from hell. I came home and collapsed, so tired. I got out my scarf and knitted a few rows.

Saturday

I woke up early, and did some work this morning. Then I got out the needles and knitted a little something. I won't say what it was, or who it's for, as I would like to give it to someone who may or may not read this blog. I don't know if anyone does at all. any comments would be appreciated. Tangent. I knitted this little thing for something which I'd like to start which involves making little things for my friends 'Just because'. I make things, and then have no idea what to do with them. So this is the solution that I've come up with.

I also made my Mummy's Birthday card, which involved ribbons and shiny card.

It's different to the sort I usually make, but I like it.

Happy Birthday Robyn!!!!

I would firstly like to say to Robyn: Have a very Happy Birthday!!!!

And secondly, I would like to show you what I had the pleasure of Making for her...

This is a canvas that I painted a few weeks back (it was mentioned in one of the Craft Reviews). I can now show it, without the worry of spoiling her surprise.

Robyn is my musical friend. This therefore warranted a musical inspired birthday gift.

The idea came to me while listening to some classical music... the way that the music floats; rises and falls... And it irritates me that the stave is always straight. Very Boring.

This painting is a combination of media - a watercolour background, and an acrylic foreground. I like it, and I hope she will too!

This is the Card I made for her. It's quite simple, and yes, the painting on the front is of her (mildly, it's only a vague likeness, but one can tell)

I chose the colours to co-ordinate with the painting, and because purple is her favourite colour. It may be simple but I think it is effective. I will make a tutorial for it later.

The picture itself on the card was primarily drawn from a photo (using my laptop as a light box) and then filled in with watercolours. I outlined it in black pen.

I like using watercolours. They're so quick and easy to use, and they give a delicate finish. And the colours can be quite vibrant as well...

Happy Birthday Robyn!

I have been busy over the past month, I promise.....

I really have been!
My art coursework is freaking me out and my french teacher is detestable with the amount of homework she gives me, so that is my excuse!
This is my last week of term before I break up for the christmas holidays..... 2 weeks in which to panic about January mocks, eat too much, freeze to the extreme whereby the duvet is my best friend..... stuff like that....
And it's my birthday on Friday.
I will be 16 on the 16th.
It is my sister's birthday today.
She is 12 on the 12th.

Georgie's Birthday Presents (shhhhh!)

My friend Georgie's birthday is in November. But, as I like to be prepared, I've already made her presents! (It saves the last minute scrabble for the glue gun)

Georgie wears a lot of these really large Hair-bow-headbands, and I decided to try to make some myself for her. After all, they don't seem to be all too difficult....

This is the first Hairband. It's a turquoise-green colour and has a double bow.

Supplies:

A base headband, preferably in a colour that matches or compliments the bow that is going to be added
50 cm of ribbon about 2.5 cm wide (length and width may vary depending on how large you want your bow to be)
Needle and thread
Fabric Glue
A smaller piece of Ribbon in a similar colour

1. Fold the larger ribbon into thirds. With the first third, fold in half and stitch together at the join of the end to the centre. With the remaining ribbon, fold in half and stitch the other end to the same point as the first.
2. Flatten the two loops that you have created with the stitched part in the centre. stitch a line of running stitch across the middle and gather together. Secure the gather.
3. With the fabric glue, glue the centre of the bow to the hairband.
4. With the smaller Ribbon, wrap it around both the bow and the hairband twice, fastening them together tightly, so the bow won't slip off with the glue. With the ends of the ribbon, tie in a small bow. Paint the ends of the ribbon and the knot with clear nail varnish to secure.

This blue hairband was done in a near identical way, except it had a wide ribbon wrapped around the bow and is secured only by fabric glue. This one is my favourite.





This has a smaller bow, where the ribbon was only folded in half, stitched and gathered. It is secured to the hairband in the same way as the green hairband.
This one also has a small, choker necklace, whereby I used the remnants of the ribbon, attached sticky Velcro to either end and outlined one of the paisley patterns of the design. I think it looks quite effective.
