This is a three page spread that I did of one of my friend's birthday picnics, and it's actually one of the first pages I did to get myself back into scrapbooking.

 

In full style of using up my stash, I found that I couldn't create the title that I wanted out of any one set of letter stickers. So, I compromised and used three contrasting elements to give a different effect. The eclectic mix of textures and fonts also helps to show how fun the afternoon was.

 

I had a lot of pictures to get through, so I made this photo strip at the bottom, in order to use multiple pictures without overpowering the page. The large picture has also been focused by a helpful frame.

 

As embellishments, I kept them quite similar, with the same themes running through all three pages, mainly that of the green, the bobbled texture, and the doily's. I also used a calendar cut out and circled the date in order to remember when it occurred.

 

This third and final page has a lot of negative space and my journaling on it. Each page shows a different part of the day, and I love these photos. Again, the themes are carried forwards

 

And there we have it, my first 'layout'. I find that using A4 pages is more versatile than a square, as there is a greater variety of papers that can be used, and they're cheaper. I have drawers full of A4 paper, but very little of anything larger than that. Also, I find that it's easier to balance the pages, as there is a distinct 'top' and a distinct 'bottom'. I would highly recommend using a rectangle paper for a scrapbook.



Of the Night: Chapter One - Fanfiction Friday

This is a small regular that I'm hoping to introduce so that I can archive my fanfiction's here, as well as on fanfiction.net. I'm going to start with a set of drabble's, a drabble being a short story of 100 words exactly, no more, no less. A drabble also therefore is more accessible to a reader less familiar with the particular fandom that the writing resides in. It focuses more on emotions of the character, and getting the reader to empathise with the characters.

This story is called Of the Night, and can be read fully here. Each chapter is unrelated, and this story is continually growing. It is a Star Trek: Voyager story, and explores small moments that I believe could have occurred between Captain Kathryn Janeway and her First Officer, Commander Chakotay, if the show had decided to explore their relationship, rather than ignoring it as they did. They all take place either at night or in the early hours of waking. Enjoy


Chakotay's quarters were quiet and still in the night. The dim shine from the stars that sped past the porthole provided the only light, glancing off of his blankets, which rose and fell in time with sleep laden breathing.

The whole room shuddered as Voyager was hit hard and they fell out of warp. The movement was sudden; a frantic mixture of tangled limbs and covers as they jolted awake. He heard the chirp of the comm badge in his ear as his arms found their way around the one thing that mattered most to him.

"Janeway to Bridge; report."


Alice

 

This was a cushion that I made for a friend's birthday. She's obsessed with cats, and loves Alice in Wonderland. This is also the neatest piece of embroidery that I have ever done. It worked out really well, and she loved it.

The Command Team

So.... It's been a while.... But I come bearing gifts!

My first ever embroidery pattern! (excuse the slightly dodgy stitching, it's been a while...)

As you could probably tell from my last post (which was admittedly ages ago), I've kind of got a small obsession over these two.

The Command Team. Captain Kathryn Janeway and her first officer Commander Chakotay from the USS Voyager. Star Trek, for anyone who is still ignorant.

This lovely pair has gotten me through my exams, which, although finished nearly a month ago, I have only really just  started to recover from. I've caught up on sleep, and I'm finally beginning to make things again. All in all, I think I'm well on my way to recovering from the traumatic experience that is A-Levels. I have more sewing to show you, as well as some knitting, some scrapbooking, and perhaps even some baking! My blog feels kind of neglected this year, so here I am, trying to make up for it. I may even post some of my fanfiction here, for archiving's sake! I hope to get this wagon rolling again, and I hope that you can come along for the ride!

This pattern is designed mainly for a 5 inch square, but can be increased or decreased in size if one would so wish. I also would like to submit it for the Fandom in Stitches Summer of Stitching, as Voyager is my favourite television show (at the moment at least...).

All in all, this is what I'm doing with my life at the moment. Hence my absence in the past month. Also, exams, but they're a minor thing.....

Afternoon Tea

 

On Easter Monday, I went for Afternoon tea with my family. We got to share one of these cake stands between two of us, and they were yummy! I was the only one who didn't have tea (I'm not a fan) so I had hot chocolate instead...with cream and marshmallows. The little cakes were so cute, but look at the size of the strawberry in comparison to the rest of them! It was enormous!

 

It was also nice to take time out of my busy revision schedule to spend that time with my family. Admittedly, most of the conversation revolved around the cake, but it is always nice to spend time with the people you are closest to. And bank holidays are definitely the time for that.

 

With another bank holiday coming up (for Britain, at least) what are you planning to do?



Oh Deer!

I made a promise last year to not buy any more Christmas stuff... but I caved. I fell head over heels in love with this tartan and knitted collection, and I just had to buy it! Also, they came in one of those Hobbycraft grab-bag things, so it was all co-ordinated  and matching, and half the price!

 

 

Here I layered two die-cuts, adding some holly leaves to one corner to spruce it up. I used an A5 corner-rounded card blank and the simplicity adds to the charm.

Also, how lovely are these stick on pearls?! I adore them! They just add a bit of luxury to any project, in my opinion.
